Whereas imperialist interventions are rampant throughout the world, nowhere more so than in the Middle East where they are facilitated through, and result in, authoritarian regimes and jihadism;
Whereas capitalist exploitation continues to threaten our communities and the environment on which we all depend;
Whereas gendered violence puts the cohesion of our communities at risk –
Wherever we see hope, we must act. Ongoing people’s struggles around the world show us that an injury to one is an injury to all, and that any victory against exploitation and oppression is a victory for all the oppressed. Immediate and principled solidarity sustains these struggles and wins concrete gains.
The Rojava Solidarity Collective stands in support of the ongoing revolution in Rojava (meaning ‘West,’ as in the West of Kurdistan located within Syria). We are a grassroots organization based in Toronto, on the stolen lands of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee and Wendat. Our independent collective organizes to show solidarity with the people’s uprisings around the Middle East and North Africa against authoritarian regimes, imperialist rule, and jihadist groups.
The revolution in Rojava proposes an emancipatory alternative in a region that is beset by totalitarian governments, despotic and sectarian politics, and exploitative imperialist interventions. A confederation of Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Arameans, Turkmen, Armenians and Chechens in the Rojava region have proven that another future in the Middle East is possible; a future built upon the historical foundations of oppressed peoples whose solidarity with one another signals nothing less than the transcendence of their oppression. In fact, this future of a participatory, ecological, and gender-liberated society based in communal systems of self-management has been a thriving functional reality for the Rojava region since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011.
We believe that the future of the Middle East can only be written by the people of the region, and that Rojava presents a shining example of the people’s will to justice and freedom.
Long live the Rojava revolution!
